Schengen visa fees: the consular fee and the centre charge

InterPASS editorial · Last verification: 12 September 2026 · Application country: Türkiye

The amount you pay is not a single item. The consular fee, the mandatory application centre charge and optional extra services are calculated separately. The table below sets out the verified items for 29 countries.

Short response

The general short-stay Schengen fee is €90 for adults, at most €45 from the age of six up to the age of twelve, and €0 under six. The mandatory service charge of the centre where the application is submitted is added on top. Services such as courier, SMS, photographs, printing and the premium lounge are mostly optional and do not affect the decision.

Three separate items

The consular fee is collected on behalf of a public authority and is not refunded even if the decision is negative. The mandatory external service charge covers the acceptance and forwarding service of the application centre; it may not be refunded if you do not attend or if you select the wrong category. Optional services are comfort services. Buying an optional service does not improve the appointment, the processing time or the visa decision.

Fee exemption and reduction

Children under six are exempt from the fee. A reduced fee applies from the age of six up to the age of twelve. Beyond that, exemptions may exist on the basis of category, nationality or a bilateral arrangement; an exemption should not be assumed before it is confirmed on the official page of the country applied to.

Care when making a payment

The fee and the mandatory service charge are paid only on the official application channel's own payment screen. No payment should be made to channels that ask for money to a personal bank account, sell “guaranteed appointments” on social media, or use domain names similar to those of the official centres. The application centres state on their own pages that they do not ask for extra payment for an appointment.

Niche questions and answers

Is the fee refunded in case of refusal?

No. The application fee is charged for the examination of the application and is not refunded even if the decision is negative.

Is a multiple-entry visa more expensive?

The short-stay Schengen fee does not increase with the number of entries. The number of entries and the period of validity are for the consulate to assess.

Does a premium or VIP service affect the decision?

No. Optional services concern the comfort of submission and return; they do not change the examination time or the outcome.

Why are the amounts in the table in Turkish lira for some countries and in euro for others?

Each application channel shows the fee in its own tariff. Some centres collect the fee in local currency; the table therefore keeps the currency stated in the source.

Is the centre charge also waived for a child's application?

The fee exemption and the centre service charge are separate items. Some centres also waive the service charge for certain age groups; this is stated on the fee page of the centre concerned.
